On 21 September the ministry announced public consultation on procedures for tachograph and workshop registers, describing electronic recordkeeping. The notice concerns draft orders; future procedural details cannot be treated as already effective on that announcement alone.
Servicing before confirming the trip
Editorial advice: if a vehicle needs servicing, agree the date before finally confirming collection. The carrier needs to know the actual vehicle’s availability, while the shipper needs a reliable loading window. Do not schedule both simultaneously without the operator’s confirmation.
If the vehicle changes, check that dispatch, warehouse and driver have updated details. Prepared paperwork and access arrangements should refer to the vehicle actually arriving. Assign responsibility for that cross-check in advance.
Checking workshop details
Confirm the applicable procedure with the carrier and servicing owner using current official documents. Keep the provider’s name, contact, service date and completion confirmation in the operational record. News of a digital register does not replace checking the actual service and equipment.
When new rules are adopted, update internal instructions with the date and approved document link. For scheduled shipments, timely confirmation of vehicle readiness and availability is more useful than conclusions drawn from a draft headline.
