New Renault Trafic: checking whether a van fits the cargo
Renault presented the electric Trafic at IAA. Why load volume alone is not enough to select a vehicle for the final mile.

What the manufacturer presented
On 14 September Renault presented the new Trafic Van E-Tech electric at IAA, quoting up to 5.8 m³ of load volume and up to 1.3 tonnes of payload. Maximum figures depend on the selected configuration, rather than applying to every van bearing the name.
Check the cargo before choosing a vehicle
Editorial advice: start with the dimensions of every package, including packaging and pallet. Check the door opening, load height, stackability and unloading order. Empty space above does not help if a wide package cannot pass through the door or boxes cannot be stacked.
Confirm the actual dispatched vehicle’s available payload after equipment is fitted. If the destination has no forklift, agree how the pallet will be moved: a suitable body does not replace unloading equipment. Share packaging and access photographs if compatibility is uncertain.
The final mile in the wider chain
When transferring from a line-haul truck to an urban van, record package count, handover responsibility and both vehicles’ arrival windows. For an electric vehicle, ask the operator to confirm charging arrangements for the actual load and delivery sequence.
Do not use exhibition-vehicle specifications as the basis for an already scheduled trip. Availability and equipment of the actual vehicle need separate confirmation. Complete cargo and location details matter more to a transport quote than the model name.
