Khorgos and Other Kazakhstan Crossings: October Hours
China’s border authority has announced a holiday schedule for road crossings with Kazakhstan. When will Khorgos close, and what should you check before dispatching cargo?

Which road crossings are affected by the holiday schedule
On September 24, Xinjiang’s border inspection authority published a schedule for the beginning of the October holidays. According to the notice, passenger and freight lanes at the China–Kazakhstan road crossings of Khorgos, Alashankou and Bakhty will be closed from October 1 through 3, 2026. Normal operations are listed for October 4–7; at Khorgos, however, normal operations on October 4 begin only at 10:00.
The authority specified separate hours for the Khorgos road crossing: it will close at 22:00 on September 30 and reopen at 10:00 on October 4. These are the times as stated in the Chinese notice, with no conversion to another time zone.
What this means for a route from China
This notice covers operating hours on the Chinese side of the named road crossings. It does not set Kazakhstan’s schedule, and it does not mean that direct Russia–China crossings or every crossing on China’s border will close. A holiday schedule alone cannot establish how long a particular truck will wait.
If cargo is to travel from China via Kazakhstan, compare the shipment’s ready date and loading time with the operating window of the chosen crossing. Before confirming the trip, check the current schedule on both sides, whether a booking or vehicle presentation is possible, the required documents and the consignee’s receiving window. Consider another crossing or route only after checking available capacity and whether the documents apply to the revised plan.
