What changes on the A59 from 2 October
Autobahn GmbH announced that on 2 October it will begin a phased closure of the A59 toward Düsseldorf, from the Monheim exit to the Düsseldorf-Süd interchange. The closure is scheduled to begin at around 09:00 Germany local time, progressing from Monheim toward Düsseldorf. This construction phase is expected to last about eight months. Resurfacing itself is scheduled to start on 5 October.
The operator describes a closure in one direction on a specific section of the A59. Its notice does not set an exact time for the works to end or confirm road conditions for any particular trip. Check current traffic updates and signs before departure.
Which diversions are listed, and where vehicle height matters
Autobahn GmbH’s main motorway diversion runs via the A542, A3 and A46. On its page for the second phase, the operator also lists a longer alternative via the A59, A57, A1 and A46. The choice depends on the entry point, delivery address and traffic conditions; the route should be checked for the specific vehicle combination before the trip.
On Richrather Straße in Hilden, one of the local diversion roads, the maximum clearance is 3.90 m beneath two railway structures. According to the operator, taller vehicles cannot continue along this street; a diversion via Baustraße and Berliner Straße to Klotzstraße/Ellerstraße is signposted for them. Check the loaded vehicle’s overall height against the local diversion plan and current signs before leaving the motorway.
What the customer and carrier should coordinate
For a delivery to or transit through the Düsseldorf area, give the carrier the loading and unloading addresses, direction of travel, trip date and actual dimensions of the loaded vehicle. Ask it to confirm both the main route and the separate approach to the warehouse: the 3.90 m restriction applies to the named local road, not to all the listed motorway diversions.
If the consignee has an appointment window, agree on an acceptable arrival time and how to reschedule it. Check Autobahn GmbH’s latest notice before dispatch and again if the route changes. The announced eight months is an estimate for the duration of the works, not a calculation of delay for a particular shipment.
